My problem might seem pretty
trivial but it is a huge issue in my life – it's mess. You know dormitory isn’t
individual place, it always been messy, it because the occupant is messy
too, I don't enjoy being this way and need desperately to sort things out. I
don’t enjoy that dormitory marked by “messy place”.
When I first learned to clean my new own dormitory as tidy as my last
(high school) dormitory, I thought Saturday had to be an all day clean-a-thon.
I didn't really have a concept of how to balance the work load during the week
so weekends could be reserved for larger projects or even you know…fun!
No one said you had to do everything at once and even when time
seems short (and your roommate are really disgusting mess and you just wanna sneak
out or crying), if you can manage one task a day, things should start to work
themselves out.
Here are the daily habit you should keep to make your dormitory
tidy :
1. Make your own bed
This takes no
time to do and really keeps the bedroom looking neat. My last
dormitory do it to create an responsibility neatness to each occupancies. All
that is required for making the bed is pulling up the sheets and blanket and putting
their pillow at the top.
2. Dealing
with what comes through the door
Set up a small area by the front door to act as a landing strip for
incoming items into your room. Put up long hook to hang your clothes and your roommate
clothes. Do not ever put your clothes out from your closet or sprawling them on
the floor!! The most disturbing view that make your room look so dirty is
clothe(s) that scattered around.
3.
One load of laundry
Again,
it takes very little time to put a new load of laundry in every day. If I
have somewhere to be in the morning, I either put the load in before I leave or
in the evening when I return room. When the load is finished washin,
drying quickly!! we all sort the laundry together and each of us is responsible
for putting away our own clothes.
If your
dormitory haven’t washing machine or there isn’t laundry service, washing your
clothes by your own hand before you would have a mountain of washing!! that
would taunt you every day with the nasty little message that you would never
get caught up. And you didn’t ever get caught up when you let your
washing mountain climb higher and wait for the weekend to do it all. Don’t
forget to drying immediate ofter!!
4. Do your dishes after every meal
This
will help you stay on top of your dormitory kitchen instead of having it turn
into a disgustin’ monster! No one really wants to do them (after all, you
probably cooked dinner to boot). But waiting for another meal or until you have
enough to fill the dishwasher just makes things feel overwhelming and easier to
put off. The same goes for take out trash as well. If you need to take the
trash out, place it by the front door to go out in the morning or dispose of it
that night so it's over and done with.
5. Quick sweep
I always
do this when I got my room not comfortable enough, don’t be lazy to sweep, you’re
your comfort room, go go go. Just feel love the swiffer. I use
washable microfiber towel and I think it’s fun to quickly run through the
dormitory and pick up the dirt and hair. I love that it’s one less thing
I have to do, but it makes a big impact in our room and dormitory with all girl
in the dormitory that likes to leave girl hair tumbleweeds floating down the
hallway.
clean dormitory come from clean habit
6. 15 minute pick up
Before
bed or at some point throughout the day, everyone is responsible for pitching
in and doing a quick 15 minute pick up. We don’t include our studyroom at
the moment since we usually have making pages to be memorized that we work on
from day to day. I don’t mind the studyroom being a little messy because
we can choose every place that can help us to get quick concentration and fast
memorizing. Sometimes it doesn’t even take fifteen minutes to pick up if we
have done a good job of cleaning up messes as we make them throughout the
day. I just like going to bed knowing that we will have a fairly fresh start
in the morning.
This may
look like a lot of time invested, but it’s really not. If everyone works
together, you can have it knocked out in no time. I’m not
guaranteeing perfection. Truthfully that is never my goal. We
live in “homes”, not museums. They are meant to be lived in and
comfortable, but it’s worth it to me to stick to some good routines and habits
to at least give myself some sanity.
What
about you? Do you have habits that you do every day to keep a tidy room and
dormitory?
